Welcome to New Charter Academy, a large 11-19 Academy that serves the communities in and around Ashton-Under-Lyne and the surrounding areas of Tameside. New Charter Academy moved into its exceptional £43 million building in September 2011. As you would expect, we are able to offer one of the most stimulating learning environments in the North West of England, with cutting edge facilities to each department, including staff work base area, open learning areas and interactive SMART board in every classroom plus ICT suites spread throughout the building. Outstanding sports, art, drama and music facilities are available to all students, with sports and drama facilities regularly used by our community through our community partner, Active Tameside.

We work together with many local partners including local primary schools, faith groups, cadet groups, Tameside Council and local schools in order to ensure our young people achieve the best they can. We have a commitment to creating a reputation for excellence and we hope to appoint someone who will fit in with our values, high expectations and belief that every student can achieve at least good progress in every subject. Our commitment and close strategic partnerships, such as with Manchester High School for Girls, have already delivered success, as the 6th Form and leadership and management were judged to be ‘good’ by Ofsted in February 2015.

Our work is not simply academic, we have a wide variety of enrichment activities taking place each day such as sports, music, art, ICT and Duke of Edinburgh to name just a few! A selection of student sports teams compete with other schools locally and regionally, with new opportunities in sport and student leadership supported by key strategic partners, such as the Manchester United Hub, developing regularly. Visitors to New Charter Academy often speak of our distinctive atmosphere. They tell us that we are friendly, optimistic, purposeful and enthusiastic.

If you are inspired and compelled by our belief that every young person can achieve, I look forward to meeting you in person over the next few weeks. We are relentless in our pursuit of excellence as our young people deserve to achieve the very best they can.
