Last night at Stamford Bridge a disappointing Chelsea were beaten by an inspired PSG team. This was the second successive season that the Paris giants had beaten the Blues. The Parisians beat them in the 1st leg with goals from a stunning free kick by Ibrahimović in the first half and a second half goal from an impossible angle from Cavani cancelling out John Obi Mikel’s goal on the stroke of half time. There was a lot of talk leading up to the match as to who was going to come out the best. Interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink described Chelsea’s poor form this season as a ‘Transitional Period’. Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League and 10 points off the top four. Champions League qualification seems unlikely this season for the Blues. After 16 minutes PSG’s holding midfielder Rabiot scored the first goal of the game with an assist by Zlatan Ibrahimović. Diego Costa levelled the match with a driven shot in the 27th minute before Zlatan Ibrahimović converted Angel Di Maria’s cross in the 67th.This was enough to earn PSG a place in the Quarter Finals in this year’s Champion’s League. Former Chelsea defender David Luiz said, “We’ll try our best to win this competition but will keep our feet on the ground”. PSG have now secured a place in the quarter finals, the draw takes place next Friday in Nyon at 11am.
